HALIFAX -- The Nova Scotia government says it will accept proposals for an addictions recovery house in Cape Breton until Oct. 23.

The Community Services Department issued a request for proposals last month to organizations interested in offering addictions services and set a deadline of Aug. 28.

The government later said it would extend the deadline so that Talbot House, a longtime rehabilitation centre that closed in March, would have more time to apply.

The facility in Frenchvale shut down during an organizational review by the department.

Department spokeswoman Nancy Watson says the successful proposal will be selected by officials from Community Services, Health and Procurement Services.

Watson could not say when a decision will be made.
