Nova Scotia’s Highway 104 has reopened after two transport trucks crashed near Antigonish early Monday.

Police responded to the collision near Exit 30 in James River around 1:30 a.m.

They say a tanker filled with a flammable substance was involved in the crash. Fire officials and a Hazmat team responded to the scene but police say there were no leaks from the fuel tanker.

One driver was treated and released from St. Martha’s Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The second driver was not injured.

The highway was shut down in both directions near Exit 30 for several hours Monday and traffic was re-routed onto Highway 4 at Brierly Brook.

The highway has since re-opened.

Police say a tanker truck is still off the highway and the owners of the truck plan to remove it tomorrow.

They say the road may be closed again in the area at that time.

Investigators believe road conditions were a contributing factor in the crash as the highway was snow covered and slippery at the time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police say no charges have been laid at this time.
