HALIFAX -- A 71-year-old man from New Brunswick is dead following a paragliding incident Saturday evening.

RCMP responded to the incident in the Eldon, P.E.I. area where the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In an email to CTV News, Mike Manning, the son of the paragliding victim says his father, Ross Manning, will be sorely missed by many.

“He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and was a source of joy, spontaneity, and inspiration to everyone in his life,” said Mike.

Both the RCMP and the P.E.I. coroner's officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death to determine if medical issues may have been the cause.

“While we can’t be sure, after speaking with the coroner and reviewing the circumstances of the incident, it seems likely he was in the process of passing before the incident occurred,” explained Mike.

“This gives us comfort because it means his last moments of consciousness on earth were probably filled with pure joy of flight, something which was his lifelong passion, on a beautiful afternoon in his favourite part of the world.”

No other details from police were provided.

The investigation is ongoing.
