HALIFAX -- Police in New Glasgow, N.S. have a man in custody after he barricaded himself in a residence early Wednesday morning.

In a tweet at 5:40 a.m. on Nov. 25, police asked the public to avoid the area of Kennedy Court due to a barricaded person. Police said they were on scene and there was no immediate threat to the surrounding residents.

Police say they safely apprehended the lone male at 6:35 a.m. without further incident.

He was apprehended for Mischief and the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act. 

Police say they are continuing to investigate.
