Halifax Regional Police have released a man who was taken into custody after a break and enter in the south end early Thursday.
Police say he was arrested early yesterday morning after a woman awoke to find a strange man in her apartment in the 6100 block of South Street, close to the Dalhousie University campus.
The woman told police that she confronted the man and he fled.
Police responded to her residence just before 5:30 a.m. and were able to track down a man who matched the suspect's description a short distance away.
He was taken into police custody and questioned, but he was released Friday morning without being charged.
There was suspicion that the suspect may have been the so-called south end sleep watcher, as the case was similar to other incidents that have happened in the area, but police say it is too early in their investigation to determine if there is a connection.
"As in all cases, investigators will examine if there is a connection to other similar incidents but at this time there is no evidence to connect this with any other cases," said Const. Brian Palmeter in a statement.
There have been at least 20 incidents in the south end of Halifax in the last few years, most involving a man who watched women through their windows as they slept.
Investigators believe the intruder in this case entered the woman's home through an unlocked door.
Meanwhile, Dalhousie University is urging students who live in the area to lock their doors and windows and to discuss safety measures with their roommates.
