A notorious Halifax criminal appeared in court Thursday morning to face several charges related to an incident earlier this week.

The RCMP first started investigating the theft of a vehicle from a business on Akerley Boulevard in Dartmouth Wednesday morning. The investigation led them to an apartment complex on Walker Avenue, where they executed a search warrant around 7:30 p.m.

Officers discovered a man had fled the apartment through the patio door and climbed onto the roof of the building.

Police say officers negotiated with 33-year-old Jimmy Melvin for a short time before he climbed down and was taken into custody.

A 33-year-old Sackville woman was also arrested at the scene and police seized several stolen items from the apartment.

A third suspect, a 27-year-old Sackville man, was arrested on Sackville Drive later in the evening.

Melvin is facing charges of possession of stolen property, breach of probation and mischief.
