HALIFAX - The case of a Halifax man accused of first-degree murder in a six-year-old cold case is due in court today.

Jimmy Melvin Junior is accused of fatally shooting Terry Marriott Junior in February 2009.

Both Marriott and Melvin have lengthy criminal records.

Defence lawyer Pat MacEwen has said memories fade with the passage of time and his client is maintaining his innocence in the matter.

Police have also laid an attempted murder charge against Melvin in an alleged incident in December 2008 involving Marriott.

Melvin is also facing drug charges after a search of the vehicle he was arrested in allegedly turned up drugs and paraphernalia.
