Faculty at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design have reached a tentative contract agreement with the university.

The 117 members of the faculty union reached the deal with administration on Friday following a marathon conciliation session.

Union president Alvin Comiter said Monday a ratification meeting would be held Tuesday.

The union is recommending acceptance of the 18-month contract, which is retroactive to July 1.

It will expire at the end of 2012.

Comiter said details of the deal won't be released before members get a chance to review it.

The union was seeking improvements to job security and health and safety issues.

Last month, support staff at the university also voted in favour of strike action. The 44 administrative assistants, co-ordinators, maintenance technicians, clerks, cleaners and carpenters are members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union.

The two sides are also meeting with a conciliator, the same one involved with the other two bargaining units. Another meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Benefits, job security, shift premiums and wages are the main issues in the impasse involving support staff.
