A Prince Edward Island motorist has been fined $2,000 for passing a school bus.

The RCMP say 24-year-old Justin Bradley Murphy passed a school bus that was stopped on Lower Malpeque Road in West Royalty, P.E.I. on Sept. 18.

Police say the bus had its red lights flashing and stop sign displayed at the time.

An unmarked RCMP vehicle happened to be driving behind Murphy as he passed the bus.

The Summerside man was found guilty of passing a school bus Monday in provincial court and fined $2,000.
