CHARLOTTETOWN -- A Prince Edward Island man who failed to isolate for 14 days after testing positive for COVID-19 has been sentenced to two years probation.
Javan Mizero Nsangira was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to common nuisance for putting the health of others at risk.
Nsangira was arrested last summer after he repeatedly violated an order to isolate for 14 days after he tested positive for the disease.
Crown attorney John Diamond says Nsangira was given a conditional discharge, which won't leave him with a criminal record.
Diamond says among Nsangira's probation conditions include an order to write letters of apology to front-line workers he put at risk.
Nsangira will also have to complete a mental health assessment and undergo counselling.
