Police in Halifax say there has been a break in one of the city's unsolved murders after they arrested two people in connection with the homicide of 27-year-old Christina Kathleen Cline of Dartmouth.

A 36-year-old Halifax man and a 25-year-old Dartmouth woman were taken into police custody yesterday and questioned but they have since been released. Police say there wasn't enough evidence to charge them.

"Essentially, at this point there wasn't enough information to warrant charges at this time, so the investigation is still ongoing," says Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter. "We're still asking for anyone with information about Christina's whereabouts or activities on the 18th to come forward and speak with investigators."

A hiker found Cline's body in Shubie Park on the morning of November 19. Police have ruled her death a homicide, though no charges have been laid.

Now her Dartmouth home sits empty and the van police once seized as part of their investigation has been returned.

Neighbours say Cline's family lives in London, Ontario and her three young children are living in Dartmouth with their father.

"They're doing all right," says neighbour Jacqui Wells. "They miss their mom of course. They don't understand. Kids shouldn't have their mother ripped away from them so young in life, especially with a violent act."

Police say Cline's murder was not a random act. They believe she knew her killers, and they also believe she knew the pair police arrested Monday.

"I don't know who would do that to her," says Wells. "She never had anybody coming or going from her house. She was always home with her kids, and I really hope they find them."

Police still haven't confirmed details about Cline's death, such as how she died or whether she was killed in Shubie Park, or if her body was taken there later.

"I just hope that anybody with any information would come forward," says Wells. "Those children need closure."
