Pedestrian dead after being struck by train in Moncton
One person has died after being struck by a train in downtown Moncton, according to RCMP.
Officers were called to the corner of Victoria and Robinson streets around 6:09 a.m. Monday.
Several streets in the area were shut down as a result of the collision, said RCMP.
The victim was a man in his 50s who police believe was from the Moncton area.
RCMP said the victim died on scene as a result of their injuries.
The Humanity Project, which works closely with the city’s vulnerable population, posted on Facebook Tuesday morning, “One of our friends passed away yesterday after being struck by a train. He was one of the nicest and kindest people out there. He was always there to help whenever you needed it and was always cracking jokes. Our condolences go out to all his friends and family at the time. Rest in Peace Ben.”
In an email response, CN Rail said they are “referring media inquiries about this incident to the Codiac Regional RCMP, which is the lead investigative authority.”
RCMP said the investigation is ongoing.
