A 36-year-old man accused in the death of a Pictou County, N.S. woman will be sent for a psychiatric evaluation following a brief court appearance Monday morning.

New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a 911 call at an apartment on Temperance Street in New Glasgow around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 30.

They found the body of 33-year-old Nicole Campbell inside the home. Police have ruled Campbell’s death a homicide, but they have not said how she died.

Robert Jason MacKenzie was arrested on Dec. 31 in connection with Campbell’s death.

The Pictou County man was remanded into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

MacKenzie made a brief appearance in Pictou provincial court Monday morning. He has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

MacKenzie is due back in court Feb. 4.
