As the ski season draws to a close, work will wrap up at hills across the Maritimes. But for Poley Mountain, the work is just about to begin.

Back in December, before the season began, fire tore through the ski lodge destroying everything.

But now the business has released design plans for the new lodge.

"We're going to go from our old lodge which was three stories, 17-thousand-feet to this one which is going to be two stories, 26-thousand plus square feet,” says Poley Mountain general manager Bill Anderson. “The flow is going to be so much better."

The business opened using temporary trailers to house staff and equipment. But the new lodge will include a lounge, cafeteria, retail shop and lockers. The new structure will also give skiers a better view of the hill when inside.

"We've been talking since 2004 that we need more space and this is an opportunity,” says board member Stephen Moffett. “We're increasing the size of the lodge probably by 50 percent. It'll be brand new kitchen, bigger, and more efficient."

People out on the slopes are just as excited and eager for the new lodge to open.

"I'm really excited about it,” says Anne Webb-Thorne. “I can't wait to see. Next season is going to be even better.”

Construction of the new lodge will start in a couple of weeks and will wrap up in December. Just in time for next winter’s ski season.
