The man whose body was found in the trunk of a stolen car in North Preston, N.S., Tuesday afternoon has been identified by police as 26-year-old Tylor Donovan McInnis.
The Halifax man’s body was found after police received a report of a stolen black Honda Civic shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday.
A short time later, officers found the vehicle in the St. Thomas Baptist Church cemetery on Upper Governor Street. A man's body was found in the trunk.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, though police did release the cause of death.
No arrests have been made.
The RCMP and Halifax Regional Police are both involved in the investigation. A K9 unit was also on scene Wednesday.
Police aren't saying anything about how, when, or where McInnis died, and they are appealing to the community for information.
“If anyone may have seen anything between the hours of 9 p.m. on Monday evening and 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning, to reach out to the police,” says Nova Scotia RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dal Hutchinson. “I can tell you that at this time, based on the information that we do have, we do not believe this to be a random act.”
Police are investigating whether the homicide may be connected to murders in the Halifax area last spring.
“It is in the early stages right now, but yes it is something we will be looking at to see if there's any connection,” says Hutchinson.
Police aren't saying who owns the stolen car or whether that person has any connection to the crime or the victim.
“Our thoughts are not only with determining what happened here, but also with the family of this individual,” says Hutchinson.
No one in McInnis's family responded to requests to speak about him.
