Police are investigating a report of a man approaching children at an elementary school in Halifax.

Investigators say a female student was walking to Fairview Heights Elementary School Monday when a man touched her on the head and gave her a small amount of change.

The girl quickly went into the school on Coronation Avenue and later reported the incident to her parents, who contacted the school Tuesday.

Police say a second female student was approached close to the school today by a man who was hiding behind the playground equipment.

They say the suspect, who is believed to be same man involved in Monday’s incident, asked the girl for her name and phone number.

She quickly left the area and reported the incident to school officials, who attempted to track down the man.

They were unable to locate him and called police.

A man matching the suspect’s description was also spotted near the school on Sept. 18. He did not approach any children at that time but police were called to the area, although they were unable to locate him.

The suspect is described as a thin, white man, aged 60 to 70 years old. He has thinning, grey hair and wore a dark colored track jacket, faded blue jeans and a ball cap Tuesday.

Police believe he is travelling on foot.

Investigators would like to speak with the man and are asking the public to report any possible sightings.
