Dates have been set for the preliminary hearing in the case of a 33-year-old man charged in the death of a Halifax-area yoga instructor.

Four days have been set aside for Nicholas Butcher’s preliminary hearing, starting Oct. 31.

The hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Butcher is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Kristin Johnston.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a home on Oceanview Drive off Purcells Cove Road around 7:45 a.m. on March 26.

Officers found Johnston’s body inside the home. Butcher was arrested at the scene but he required medical attention and was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

He was rearrested on April 11 after being released from hospital.

Police say Butcher and Johnston had been in a “domestic relationship” at the time of her death.
