A 64-year-old man is recovering after a violent assault left him bruised and battered Wednesday night in the north end of Dartmouth.

It was just one in a string of violent incidents that occurred in the same neighbourhood in the span of a few hours.

In the first incident, the 64-year-old was allegedly robbed of his wallet and cellphone.

The man told police he had been walking in the area after attending an addiction recovery program at the Freedom House in Dartmouth..

“They knocked his glasses off, his two hearing aids out, and broke his teeth,” says Kari Gillis of Freedom House.

The two suspects are described as black males in their 20s. Police say they were both wearing long jean shorts and appeared to be intoxicated.

It happened near the intersection of Farrell Street and Windmill Road before 11 p.m.

The man was left with two black eyes, broken dentures, as well as emotional and physical trauma.

In the words of one Freedom House employee, the man was left unable to see, unable to hear, unable to eat, and even unable to talk.

On Thursday, friends from Freedom House searched for his belongings and  spoke with Rick Williams, who owns a business at the corner.

“They actually came over to see if we saw a wallet around,” says Williams. “They said they found the hearing aid, and they found the glasses from the gentleman that got mugged last night.”

The hearing aids that were found were broken.

In a second incident, within an hour of the mugging, police saya pizzeria in the area was robbed and an employee was stabbed.

Employee Donald Horne went to make a delivery, only to come back and find his co-worker bleeding profusely.

“He was stabbed on the hand with a knife and they took cash,” says Horne.

Lemarco Sparks, 27, and Stephanie Nicholson, 23, both of Dartmouth, are facing numerous charges in connection with the alleged robbery and stabbing.

Police say there was an additional mugging and attempted mugging Wednesday night within blocks of the other incidents. No arrests have been made in those cases.
