A New Brunswick man charged in connection with a sexual assault has been ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation.

RCMP say 55-year-old Derrick Goodine of Saint-André was arrested Thursday following a lengthy police investigation.

The investigation was launched after police responded to a break-and-enter at a home in Plaster Rock last year.

Police say a woman in her 50s awoke to find a man in her bedroom around 5 a.m. on Oct. 11, 2011 and that he sexually assaulted her.

Goodine appeared in Grand Falls provincial court on Friday to face charges of break and enter and sexual assault in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear in court on Oct. 2 to enter a plea, after a psychiatric evaluation has been completed.
