Police have identified a female cyclist who died Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle on a Cape Breton highway.

RCMP responded to the crash on Highway 125 near North Sydney before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say Norma Jean Denney was travelling westbound towards North Sydney when she was struck by another vehicle coming from behind.

The 53-year-old Florence, N.S. woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man from Sydney Mines, was not injured.

The westbound lane of the highway between Exits 1 and 2 was closed to traffic for several hours as police investigated the crash. It has since reopened.

Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
