A 23-year-old man has died after he was gunned down in front of his grandmother’s house in the Halifax area.

RCMP responded to a 911 call on Downey Road in North Preston just before 9 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived on the scene, officers say Narico Downey was already being rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Const. Tammy Lobb wouldn’t say whether the North Preston man was conscious when police intercepted the vehicle taking him to hospital.

Downeylater died in hospital of his injuries.

Investigators spent most of Monday searching the 1188 Downey Road home for evidence and going door-to-door trying to find witnesses to the shooting.

Police say they are investigating the shooting as a homicide. An autopsy was conducted Monday afternoon and it confirmed Downey died from a gunshot wound.

Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact police.
