Residents of Caissie Cape, N.B. are breathing a sigh of relief after a suspect wanted in connection with a string of break-and-enters in the town appeared in court today.

Area resident Michel LaCroix noticed something strange when he went to his car on the weekend.

“Saturday morning when I got up I noticed that there was something different in my car,” he says.

LaCroix got off fairly easy – only two flashlights were stolen from his vehicle – but police say they have received over a dozen reports of break-and-enters and thefts between Sept. 1 and Sept. 23.

In some cases, bigger ticket items such as jewelry, cell phones and GPS devices were stolen.

Residents tell CTV News a young man used an ATV in connection with the crimes and the operator of a nearby campground confirms there have been at least two break-ins at the camp in recent weeks.

Caissie Cape resident Robert Gauvin says he feels better following the arrest.

“Yes I do, I feel safe now that they have caught him,” says Gauvin.

Travis Mahar, of no fixed address, appeared in court today to face three charges related to the incidents.

Police say the 20-year-old man is originally from Nova Scotia.
