One of North America's largest retail giants is targeting the Maritimes as it expands north of the border.

Target Corp. released details Thursday of where it plans to operate its first round of locations, starting early in 2013.

Four of Canada's first 105 locations will be located in the Maritimes - two in Nova Scotia, one in New Brunswick and one on Prince Edward Island.

The locations include:

* McAllister Place – Saint John

* Mic Mac Mall – Dartmouth

* Bedford Place – Bedford, N.S.

* Charlottetown Mall – Charlottetown

Target Corp. announced a $1.83 billion takeover of Zellers leases across the country in January.

The new Target stores will replace current Zellers locations at these sites. Each store will employ roughly 150 to 200 team members with the hiring process beginning in 2012.

The company says it will communicate with Zellers employees to make it easy for them to apply for jobs at Target.

The majority of Zellers stores will close six to nine months prior to opening as Target stores to allow for significant remodeling. On average roughly $10 million will be invested into remodeling each location.
