A retired nurse from Sydney is the latest winner in Cape Breton’s Chase the Ace lottery draw.

Kay Gillis was watching the draw at home on the family computer when the winning ticket number was drawn.

The cards were placed on the table, and if Gillis had picked the ace of spades, it would have meant a $1.3 million payoff. Instead, she picked the 10 of spades, and received just over $239,000.

Gillis says she wasn't disappointed.

“This is a great help,” she said. “That leaves some more for everybody else. Spread it around.”

Organizers estimate that next week's Chase the Ace jackpot will be more than $1.6 million.

Only eight cards remain in the deck.
