The search for a missing university student has expanded in Sackville, N.B. following the discovery of a sandal and a footprint.

Christopher Metallic, a 20-year-old student at Mount Allison University, was last seen leaving a house party on Allison Street early Sunday morning.

There are reports Metallic may have stopped at a pizza shop on Main Street after leaving the party, but police have not been able to confirm that.

An RCMP helicopter, K9 unit and Ground Search and Rescue volunteers have been involved in a search for the young man for three days.

They turned their attention to Upper Sackville Tuesday after an area resident found a sandal and some footprints near his property.

Gordon Carlisle made the discovery on a side road that borders his property around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

“I noticed a Croc laying here and it meant something then, because it was here the day before, but we didn’t realize it meant anything,” says Carlisle.

Carlislesays search and rescue crews, including air support, spent Tuesday combing the bush near his property.

At this point, police say there is no evidence of foul play, but the lack of information being made available to the public has people talking.

“It is weird,” says university student Julie Klukas. “I think that is why everyone is so, we all want him found, we don’t know what happened, nobody knows what happened.”

“This is not an impersonal school,” says student Benjamin Weichman. “I came to Mount Allison because it is not one of those places with 20,000 students, and you get to know people.”

Carlisleis a long-time resident of Upper Sackville. He says he can only recall one other missing person in the area during his time there.

“It is kind of unusual,” says Carlisle. “It is kind of strange, we don’t understand it.”

Police have also expanded their search to a wooded area off of Route 940 in the Upper Aboujagne Road area, heading toward Shemogue.

Police say they are focusing their search in that area after receiving information that a person was seen walking on the Upper Aboujagne Road around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Metallic is described as aboriginal with short, dark hair and glasses. He is six-feet-tall and weighs 180 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a shiny, bright blue sweater and jeans.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
