Police and search crews are continuing to scour a wooded area of Saint John after a woman disappeared from the area nine days ago.
Yeonhee Choi, 45, left her home on Prince Street at approximately 6 a.m. on April 22.
She hasn’t been seen nor heard from since.
Choi’s husband is offering a $50,000 reward for information that helps police locate his wife.
“I have hope my wife can return to my home, to me, to my daughter,” Woogoo Han told CTV News on Tuesday. “She loves us too much and she likes it here in Canada.”
Today, police and search crews focused their efforts on the banks of the Reversing Falls.
Police quickly searched the area last week after Choi was reported missing, but they returned to the area today in the hopes of taking a more thorough look.
“It’s in very close proximity to her residence and spot where the couple used to come and walk so she’s very familiar with this area,” says Sgt. Jay Henderson. “Where they’ve only resided here in Saint John for a year and a half, it’s the popular area where they’d walk.”
“Well, today we’re looking for anything out of the ordinary, anything that might involve this particular case,” says search manager Stephen Moore.
Mooresays steep slopes and debris is hampering search efforts in some areas.
“We’ve been told a number of items to look for so we’re concentrating on just items A through B than, you know, everything that’s here,” he says. “There’s a lot of debris on the ground.”
Hendersonsays it is difficult to track Choi because she left her cellphone, wallet and credit card at home.
Still, he says he is optimistic, and that search crews will focus on a new area tomorrow if nothing turns up today.
Choi is described as a Korean woman, five-foot-four with short, dark hair.
She was last seen wearing a black or brown leather jacket, black tights, black boots, and a dark knit-style sweater.
Police say she may have been carrying a black backpack.
