HALIFAX -

A major water main break on Quinpool Road in Halifax has closed a section of the busy street.

The area between Parkwood Terrace and Quinn Street was closed to traffic as Halifax Water crews fix the break.

Halifax Water said in a news release at 10 p.m. Friday that service was restored to customers impacted by the water main repair on Quinpool Road, Halifax.

"Impacted customers should run the cold water at one faucet for about 10 minutes prior to resuming normal use," Halifax Water said in the release. "Do not use the hot water faucet since this could draw discoloured water into your hot water heater/tank."

Halifax Water says everyone had water service with the exception of some near the intersection of Quinpool Road and Parkwood Terrace.

Quinpool Road was open to local traffic only between Quinn Street and Connaught Avenue.

Traffic control personnel will be on-site to manage traffic flows. Sidewalks remain open.
