Police say weather played a role in a six-car crash near Brookfield, N.S. this morning.

Two of the vehicles involved in the crash rolled over and ended up far from the shoulder of Highway 102 around 6:30 a.m.

It was snowing in the area at the time and roads were slippery.

“We had some black ice. I was cruising along at about 80 kilometres and I just couldn’t stop,” says Brad Rushton, who was involved in the accident. “It just took off on me and then the mayhem behind me started.”

“I was coming from Stewiacke way and I hit the passing lane and my car shifted on the ice and went right in the back of his car,” says Nathan Smith. “It pushed it into the ditch and smashed my car, airbag support and everything else.”

A woman and a 16-year-old boy were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was backed up on the highway’s northbound lanes for a few hours while crews cleaned up the scene.
