Stolen vehicle smashes into patrol car

Just before 4:30 a.m. this morning, RCMP in Tantallon responded to a call that two vehicles - a Volkswagen Golf and Kia Rio - had just been stolen from a home on Shankel Road in Hubbards.

Police located the stolen vehicles travelling towards Halifax on Highway 103. They both left the highway at Exit 5.

As police attempted to stop the cars and make an arrest, police say the Volkswagen Golf struck a patrol car.

The second car sped away and continued towards Halifax on Highway 103.

As police approached the Volkswagen Golf, it also fled on Highway 103.

About 20 minutes later, police located the stolen Kia Rio and managed to stop the vehicle just off Exit 3 and Hwy 103.

They arrested the driver, a 21-year-old Halifax man, at the scene.

He remains in custody and charges are pending.
