HALIFAX -- Two 18-year-old men accused of confining and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Halifax have been remanded into custody until a bail hearing set for next week.

Doreze Marvin Beals faces 11 charges including human trafficking, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, sexual assault causing bodily harm and gang sexual assault.

Police also laid eight charges against Andre Jerome Gray, including human trafficking, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, sexual assault causing bodily harm and gang sexual assault.

Both men appeared separately Wednesday in Dartmouth provincial court before their cases were adjourned to April 24.

Investigators say the two men confined the girl in a basement in a building in the Halifax-area community of North Preston for two days before she escaped last week.

Officers were called to Clarence Street on Thursday around 9 p.m. to investigate a report of shots being fired.

Police say there was no evidence of a shooting, but they found the girl who alleged she had been threatened and held against her will.
