Two New Brunswick teens are facing charges in connection with a fire that destroyed a historic church on the Kingsclear First Nation earlier this month.

RCMP say a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in Fredericton provincial court February 9 to face charges.

Police say they aren't certain yet what charges the youths will face.

The charges stem from a fire that started in the 138-year-old Catholic church shortly before 2 a.m. December 11.

Fire crews from the Kingsclear First Nation, the Upper Kingsclear Fire Department and the Keswick Ridge Fire Department responded to the blaze, but they were unable to save the old church.

Investigators say the fire had been deliberately set.
