Two teens are facing charges after a student in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley received a threatening text message Tuesday morning.
Just before noon, Kings District RCMP received a report that a student at Central Kings Rural High School in Cambridge, N.S. had received a threatening text from another person. Students say the threat involved guns.
The school and adjacent Cambridge Elementary were immediately locked down by school officials as a safety precaution.
RCMP and a K9 unit responded to the scene. The lockdown ended and classes resumed once police determined there was no threat inside the schools.
Both schools were dismissed at the regular time.
Officers arrested two teens in connection with the case Tuesday afternoon. Police won’t say whether weapons were involved, or where the teens were arrested, but they do say they weren’t anywhere near the school at the time.
A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old each face a charge of uttering threats. They appeared in Kentville provincial youth court Wednesday morning.
Both schools are operating as usual today.
