LUNENBURG, N.S. -- A highway collision involving two motorcycles has put three people in hospital.

RCMP in Lunenburg County, southwest of Halifax, say a motorcycle carrying two riders collided with a vehicle stopped ahead of them on Highway 3 on Saturday evening.

The Mounties say the motorcycle then landed in the path of a second motorcycle travelling in the opposite lane, causing a second crash.

The second motorcycle was being driven by a lone 74-year-old man from Petite-Riviere.

Police say all three riders were taken to the South Shore Regional Hospital.

The driver of the first motorcycle has been airlifted to hospital in Halifax.
