Two men from Canterbury, N.B., have been arrested in connection with alleged sex-related crimes against two young girls.
The men are facing a variety of charges.
The Woodstock RCMP began the investigation on May 29, 2016, after receiving information from a member of the public. Two victims were then identified.
Four days after the investigation, police arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the alleged assaults.
The man has been charged with invitation to sexual touching. His name cannot be released in order to protect the identity of the victims, who are both minors.
A second man, 50 years old, was arrested on June 2 after fleeing from police. He was apprehended without incident after RCMP’s Police Dog Services assisted in tracking him through the woods.
“Thanks to information received from the public, police were able to act quickly and to investigate these serious allegations,” says Sergeant J.P. MacDougall of the Woodstock RCMP. “As a result of collaboration between various RCMP sections and good police work, two men have been arrested and face charges for some very serious crimes.”
Both men were remanded into custody by telephone. The 51-year-old man will appear in Woodstock Provincial Court on June 6 and the 50-year-old man on June 7.
