MONCTON, N.B. -- Two homes for seniors and special care residents in New Brunswick had to be evacuated because of flooding in the buildings.

The Canadian Red Cross says 32 people from a special care home in Moncton were displaced Sunday evening after sprinkler systems went off, causing extensive damage to the building.

About a dozen people were able to remain the part of the building that escaped damage, while others were staying with family or friends.

The Red Cross says it's helping provide food for residents who remained at the home.

In another incident in Edmundston, tenants of a 50-unit apartment complex for seniors were also displaced by a flood Sunday.

The Red Cross says of the 19 tenants assessed by disaster volunteers, eight have been provided with temporary lodging and food.
