HALIFAX -- The victim of a weekend shooting in Fredericton has been identified as 29-year old Justin Leigh Finnemore.

The Fredericton Police Force released the Fredericton man’s identity Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say Finnemore had been shot and he died in hospital.

A short time later, officers tracked down the vehicle that had dropped Finnemore off at the hospital.

Police say they arrested several people after stopping the vehicle, but they have since been released.

No charges have been laid.

Investigators don’t believe the shooting was a random incident. They believe Finnemore was targeted and they are treating his death as a homicide.

The Fredericton Police Force is asking anyone with information about the case to contact them.

This is the second homicide in Fredericton this year -- a 31-year-old man identified as Clark Ernest Greene was found dead in Wilmot Park the morning of April 15 -- but police don’t believe the incidents are connected.

New Brunswick police probe three separate homicides

The latest homicide in Fredericton was the third such incident during a violent weekend in New Brunswick.

In Hillsborough, N.B., the RCMP is investigating the death of a 43-year-old woman.

Police found the woman’s body at a home on Main Street around 10:20 a.m. Saturday.

Calvin Andrew Lewis, 49, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tina Tingley-McAleer.

And in Upper Gagetown, N.B., the RCMP is investigating after a woman was assaulted and two men were found dead inside a home on Highway 102 Sunday evening.

Police have determined a 26-year-old man was the victim of a homicide, while foul play is not suspected in the death of the second man, who was 53.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
