A video of a Halifax couple has gone viral thanks to a very public proposal at the Halifax International Buskers Festival this past weekend.

Shane Borque got down on one knee, proposing to his very pregnant girlfriend Kerissa Richards in front of the crowd on Monday. After asking his friend Victor, who was busking at the festival for help, Shane's plans took shape.

“I asked him if there were any way he could incorporate the proposal into his show,” says Shane

“What I wanted to do was find a way for it to be about him,” says busker Victor Rubilar, “that it wouldn't be funny but it would actually be special for him.”

Kerissa says she started to get nervous when Victor brought her in front of the crowd.

“I was thinking, ‘He doesn't know I was this pregnant,’” she says.

“I remember fiddling with the ring in my pocket at this point to make sure I had it in my hand,” says Shane.

Borque says he and Victor created a short script beforehand.

“I said, ‘Is that your husband?’ and she said ‘yes’ and I was like, ‘Wait, that's not the right answer.’ I made a joke about it and moved on,” says Victor.

Kerissa says she started to figure out what was happening when Shane made his way up to the stage.

“I just took her hand and asked if I could marry her,” Shane says. “I'm pretty sure she didn't actually say yes. I just cried, balled my eyes out, she hard cried and threw her hand out at me.”

“He's just my best friend and I can't believe it's finally happening,” says Kerissa.

This twosome will soon be a threesome, as they wait for their son's arrival.

“She supports me. She's there for me whenever I need her,” says Shane. “Always by my side, no matter what. I think that's the best thing to ask for in a best friend and a lover, too.”
