BASS RIVER, N.B. - Police in eastern New Brunswick say they have identified a suspect believed to be the driver of a stolen pickup that left the scene of a fatal crash on New Year's Day.

However, the RCMP in Richibucto have not released the name of the 32-year-old man from Moncton because no charges have been laid.

The Mounties say a vehicle was driving on Route 116 in Bass River when it collided with a pickup that was probably pulling out of a driveway.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from Bass River, died at the scene, while a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old man were critically injured.

The RCMP are asking for the public's assistance as they continue with their investigation.

Police say the name of the victim will not be released at the request of his family.
