A mother and daughter were sent to hospital after being struck by a car in a marked crosswalk Thursday night.

The accident happened at the corner of Nelson Landing Boulevard and the Bedford Highway in Bedford, N.S. around 8:30 p.m.

Traffic was rerouted around the scene for about half an hour.

The woman and her child were trying to cross the highway and expected traffic to stop for them.

“They started to cross the street and a car just went by and hit them, knocked them both off their feet,” witness Liam MacDonald tells CTV News. “The daughter was hurt less than the mother. The mother was unconscious when I saw her.”

Police say their injuries are believed to be minor. The 40-year-old driver was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
