A woman is dead after the vehicle she was travelling in collided head-on with a transport truck on Nova Scotia’s Highway 103 Monday morning.

Police and emergency crews responded to the crash before 10 a.m. in Oakhill.

Investigators said the transport truck was headed toward Bridgewater and the car was headed toward Halifax when they collided.

The female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as 40-year-old Janet Joanne MacNeil of Mahone Bay.

Police said Highway 103 is shut down and traffic is being rerouted at Exit 11 and Exit 12. They expect the highway to be closed overnight.

The accident has also raised environmental concerns. A spokesperson for the Nova Scotia Environment Department confirms two investigators were on scene. They said diesel from the truck leaked onto the shoulder of the road and into the ditch, but did not enter a nearby lake.

The incident remains under investigation.
