A young woman reported missing just outside of Halifax has been found by searchers after spending the night in the woods.

Leanne Lessard, 21, was last seen in the Kingswood Area of Hammonds Plains around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police believe she left a home in the area on foot shortly after 6 p.m.

Lessard is not familiar with the area and she was reported missing around 8:30 p.m.

Police and members of Halifax Ground Search and Rescue concentrated their search in the area near a logging road at the end of Anahid Drive. They say the area is a common hiking location and a trail known as Blue Mountain runs off the logging road.

Lessard was located shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

“She was found by a Halifax Search and Rescue team,” says Const. Wayne Cathcart. “We had a number of teams called in from Hants County, Cumberland County, outside jurisdictions, just to make sure we had enough resources.”

“They just found my daughter, so I’m really happy about it… (it was) a very long night,” Lessard’s mother, Tracey Harris, told CTV News shortly after she was located.

Police say Lessard started a fire to keep warm and is in good condition.
