A pit bull owner is facing charges in an attack that left a Yarmouth woman with serious neck, face and upper body injuries.

Forty-five-year-old Noella Ann MacIntosh was attacked March 26, as she walked into a building on the community's Main Street.

MacIntosh fled to the parking lot, but the pit bull continued to maul her as she ran.

Two Mounties pulled the dog off MacIntosh and then shot it dead.

MacIntosh was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax where she underwent surgery.

Yarmouth town officials told CTV News the dog was also responsible for another attack two years ago.

RCMP say 40-year-old Gary Joseph Woods, also of Yarmouth, is facing charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Police say they arrested Woods, the dog's owner, on Friday. He has been released from custody, but will appear in court May 31.
