Redcross

The Canadian Red Cross is a humanitarian organization born from the desire to help those in need.

In Atlantic Canada, its volunteers and staff respond almost daily to disasters - whether it’s one family displaced by a house fire or a community-wide emergency like flooding. It also provides free short-term loans of wheelchairs and other mobility aids to the public, is a leader in swimming and water safety as well as first aid and CPR training, and offers services ranging from bullying and abuse prevention training, to home care/continuing care and other services to keep seniors safe at home.

The Seniors' Safety Program delivered by the Canadian Red Cross (funded by the NS Department of Seniors) helps address the concerns of seniors by promoting awareness about senior abuse and prevention, crime prevention, and other personal safety and health issues. The Red Cross provides information, education sessions and referral services to seniors and offers direct, individualized support to seniors regarding their safety concerns. While the Red Cross delivers this program free of charge of seniors in the greater Halifax area, it’s worth noting that comparable programs are available in all the Atlantic provinces though perhaps delivered by some other non-for-profit.

In partnership with CTV, the Canadian Red Cross hopes to highlight the many ways their staff and volunteers work to assist the most vulnerable members of our community.

This fall, the CTV Morning Live team will welcome the Canadian Red Cross to the studio to chat about a variety of topics.
