Another round of snow on the way for western Cape Breton

Share

Another round of snow is in store for western Cape Breton.

A snowfall warning is place for Inverness County - Mabou and north. Fifteen to 25 cm of snow is expected in the area, including the Highlands, early Wednesday until Thursday morning.

“This system is likely to be accompanied by gusty winds and blowing snow,” the warning reads.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”

A weather station in the Highlands reported 63 cm, or more than two feet, on the ground following a winter storm Monday morning.

Other weather stations in Inverness and Victoria counties at that time reported up to 20 cm.

Roughly 1,600 residents in the Cape Breton Highlands were without electricity at some point on Tuesday. Nova Scotia Power said the heavy, wet snow caused many of the outages.

The fire hall in Margaree Forks served as a warming centre for people.

"Just locally, for anybody who needs coffee, tea or that sort of thing on our own - as a charging station, warming station", said fire department member Maril Crowley.
