A Bible Hill, N.S., man has been charged with aggravated assault after an altercation in North River, N.S., according to the RCMP.

In a Friday news release, police say they received a report around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 6 that a stabbing had happened the night before.

After investigating, police found two men had been involved in an altercation outside of a store on Highway 311. Police say one man “severely assaulted” the other.

The 44-year-old victim from Truro, N.S., was seriously injured and taken to hospital by a family member, according to police.

The RCMP says the investigation found no weapon was used during the altercation and the victim was not stabbed.

Officers later found and arrested 33-year-old Dennis Jordan Service around 4:40 a.m. on Dec. 6.

Service was released on conditions and is set to reappear in Truro provincial court on Jan. 8.
