A man and a woman are facing charges in connection with an alleged threat at IMP Aerospace at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport Thursday morning.
Police say they received third-hand information early Thursday about a potential threat involving an individual with connections to the Halifax Stanfield International Airport community.
Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP responded to the scene; the building was evacuated and employees were told to go home at 5:30 a.m.
IMP Aerospace tweeted around 7 a.m. Thursday that, due to unforeseen circumstances, operations had been suspended and the plant would remain closed until 10 a.m.
Police arrested a 48-year-old Derek Russell Strum at an apartment building on Lakefront Road in Dartmouth around 9 a.m. Thursday and executed a search warrant at the home Thursday afternoon.
They also searched an address on Cuisak Drive in Dartmouth and an address on Matheson Court in Nine Mile River.
Police say they seized ammunition and magazines for firearms at the Lakefront Road home and a locked gun case that is believed to contain a firearm from the address in Nine Mile River.
Nothing was recovered from the search on Cuisak Drive.
The investigation also led police to arrest 46-year-old Diana Lynn Richard, who is known to Strum, at an address on Jackson Road in Dartmouth shortly after 5 p.m.
Strum and Richard each face four counts of possession of a prohibited device.
Richard was released from custody on a promise to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on April 19.
Strum was due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Friday morning.
Operations are back to normal at IMP Aerospace and the RCMP has increased its presence in and around the airport as a precaution, but police say airport operations are not impacted by the incident.
IMP Aerospace, which repairs military aircraft, laid off 44 workers earlier this week.
A spokesperson said it is expected to be a short-term layoff.
