Halifax Regional Police are looking for a suspect after a woman was sexually assaulted near the Garrison Grounds early Saturday morning.

Police say the 27-year-old woman was walking in the area of Sackville Street and Bell Road around 12:15 a.m. when she was approached by a man.

Police allege the man made a sexual comment while he touched himself. They say he then grabbed the woman and pushed her to the ground from behind.

She screamed and fought back, which police say prompted the suspect to flee in the direction of the Cogswell roundabout.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man matching the suspect’s description in the area of the roundabout a short time later, but he was released without charges Saturday afternoon.

The suspect is described as being roughly five-foot-six inches tall, with a slim build. His ethnicity is unknown but police say he spoke with an accent.

He was wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a dark-coloured toque at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
