A Cape Breton woman who has been missing since September has been found safe in Tennessee.

According to her family, 23-year-old Chrisma Denny told staff at a woman’s centre she wanted to go home.

On Sunday morning, police brought her family a picture of her taken in Tennessee and told them she had been found.

Cheryl Maloney, president of the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association, says it gives hope to many who are trying to raise awareness about missing and murdered aboriginal women.

“She was gone for so long and there were no clues,” says Maloney. “It was just silent, you know, you’re not ready to hear such good news, especially a few days before Christmas, so everybody’s just very happy, relieved.”

Chrisma Denny, who is named after Christmas, is expected to return home in the day few days.

Her family says they are making plans to get her back in Cape Breton as soon as possible.
