SYDNEY, N.S. -- Nova Scotia's independent police watchdog is investigating after the passenger of a pickup truck injured his leg during a police pursuit in Cape Breton.

Ron MacDonald of the Serious Incident Response Team says officers attempted to pull over the truck around 4:30 p.m. Monday on George Street in Sydney after receiving a call from another driver, although he declined to elaborate on the nature of the call.

MacDonald says the truck failed to stop and turned onto Edgar Street before turning onto Donna Drive.

He says police then found the passenger of the truck on the ground with a fractured leg.

MacDonald says how the passenger ended up outside of the truck is part of their investigation.

The truck was stopped a short time later and the driver is facing numerous charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The passenger was taken to hospital and remanded for breaching a court order.

The team investigates all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia.
