The Emera Oval in Halifax is once again open for skaters this winter.

The Oval, which is the largest outdoor artificially-refrigerated ice service east of Quebec City, is open from the 2024-2025 season, according to a news release from the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The skating surface is the size of three NHL hockey rinks and the facility has an accessible washroom and street parking on Cogswell Street. The Oval offers daily public skates and, starting Jan. 6, a “sensory skate” with no music playing or large group bookings every Monday.

The Oval will have a “Skate with Santa” event at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a “Countdown to 2025” skate from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 31.

Attendees can rent skates and helmets from the Oval for free.

The full schedule for public skate times is available online.
